Remember the previous years when Singapore is covered in haze, and got us all wondering if we were in a doomsday movie setting? This is due to the open burning by our neighbour country for agricultural purpose, and among all countries in the region, Singapore is one that is impacted the most. This year’s dry season for Indonesia is longer than the previous years and is expected to last until October.
If the haze comes this year and got Singapore’s air condition to hazardous level again, is your home ready for you and your family to stay in for the whole day?
One thing that is really crucial here is to keep the air quality healthy within your home. Now imagine having your doors and windows shut, switching on your air conditioner only to find out that it isn’t ready to handle the the haze condition. So you wonder why the air conditioner that has been working suddenly fails you at this crucial moment, we will help you with that question,
- The Filter is Dirty
Haze caused by forest fire can contain many harmful elements such as dust, smoke particles, sulphur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, ozone, carbon monoxide, and particulate matter that can be extremely harmful to human lungs. A healthy A/C filter will be able to trap the dirts, dusts, and other pollutants, and ensure the pollutants do not circulate back into the air in your house again. A clogged filter will not do its job of capturing the dirt, dust, and other pollutants that can be harmful to human body, and your family might as well be inhaling the polluted air on the outside.
- The Coolant Lines are Not Checked Regularly
The coolant lines are refrigerant tubes or pipes that run from the evaporator to the condenser outside. They are usually covered with foam coolant line insulation to maintain them on the highest effectiveness. It is very common to see missing insulation on aged A/C units, and that can sometimes lead to A/C unit gas leakage. We might not know immediately that there are leakage in the A/C unit, but only notice that when we need the cold, clean air the most, like when we have haze in our country.
- The Condensate Drain Is Covered In Dust
Many common A/C problems are related to dirt buildup in various parts of the A/C system. Buildup dirt also leads to a clogged condensate drain. The presence of haze will make a clogged condensate drain problem accelerate quicker with the particulate matters in it. A seriously crimped condensate drain can shut down the entire unit, or causes leakage around the A/C system components.
Do we really want to be unprepared for haze condition that happens so often in our country when we can have experts get our A/C units checked and serviced? Also, regular checkups and maintenance for your A/C units are far cheaper than reparation for an emergency breakdown. Choose wisely and protect your family from haze!
